Do people not notice differences about you until months after you changed something about yourself?

People still come up to me, three months later, that I see every day, and say, 'HEY! You got your eyebrow pierced!? HUH!', including my Ceramics teacher today. And I dyed my hair once and half of the people didn't say anything until after it grew out.
