Do you think mobile home manufacturers should be required to include weather radios?

Kathryn Martin believes an early warning from an emergency weather radio might have helped save her 2-year-old son, C.J., when a tornado swept through an Evansville mobile home park in 2005. ''We had no warning,'' Martin said. ''It was 2 o'clock in the morning. We were asleep.'' Martin testified Tuesday before an Indiana House committee that is considering legislation that would require weather radios to be installed in most mobile homes. The radios would automatically alert residents when a storm is coming their way, even during the middle of the night, said bill sponsor Rep. Phil Hoy, D-Evansville. The manufactured housing industry opposes the proposal, dubbed ''C.J.'s bill.'' The industry fears it might face lawsuits if radios are installed but later do not work, said Jim Keller, with the Indiana Manufactured Housing Association. Find more information at
