Does keeping an organic vegetable patch in a garden where you use pesticides and herbicides defeat the object of the exercise?

As a hypothetical example: A person meticulously keeps an organic vegetable patch, where they don't use any chemical herbicides, fungicides or pesticides. But then does use those chemicals on the ornamental plants in the rest of their garden.
