Should a drilling ban be enacted in the United States, at least until the current oil spill is resolved?

A group of West Coast lawmakers announced Thursday a proposed ban on offshore drilling along their states' coastlines, one day after congressional hearings raised questions about oil platform fail-safe equipment that has allowed millions of gallons of crude to spew into the Gulf of Mexico... The announcement comes as engineers from the Gulf well's operator, BP, ready more options to stanch the flow of the oil, after a previous attempt to halt the estimated 210,000-gallon-a-day leak failed.
