Lights will go out at the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, City Hall and Alcatraz from 8 to 9 p.m. Saturday as part of San Francisco's first-ever citywide energy saving event to promote energy conservation. Lights Out volunteers handed out energy-saving light bulbs Thursday at City Hall as well. 'Our city's growing appetite for energy must be controlled to protect our planet from the effects of the climate crisis,' read a statement from event organizers. 'We estimate that turning lights out in San Francisco for even one hour could save as much as 15% of the energy consumed on an average Saturday night.'
