Meat eaters: Do you care about how animals are treated before they're killed for meat?

I just can't stand it when people think that it doesn't matter what happens to these animals, because they're just going to be eaten anyway. I eat meat, and I'm not extremely passionate about animal rights. I DO think that unnecessary cruelty should be avoided, though.
