Sen. Robert Byrd is a former Ku Klux Klan recruiter who has recently used the word 'n***er' twice on national television. Byrd helped filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and also opposed the nominations of both black candidates for the Supreme Court -- liberal Thurgood Marshall and conservative Clarence Thomas.
