JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri lawmakers approved some of the nation's toughest restrictions on cold medicines that can be used to make methamphetamine. The measure, passed overwhelmingly Friday, targets the sale of over-the-counter medication containing pseudoephedrine, such as Sudafed. It would require medicines with pseudoephedrine as the only active ingredient to be kept behind a counter or within 10 feet of a cashier unless they were tagged with electronic anti-theft devices. Limits also would be placed on how much pseudoephedrine could be bought in a single transaction — two packages, or 6 grams, of medicine with pseudoephedrine as the sole active ingredient, or three packages, or 9 grams, of medicine also containing other active ingredients.
