Do you ever buy the most ugly of things just because you feel like nobody else will if you don't?

Like I always pick the saddest looking, jacked up pumpkin I can find for Halloween. I figure nobody else will want it so I will take it because I feel bad it's an ugly pumpkin. I don't use Christmas trees but if I did I'd probably buy a sad pitiful one nobody else wants. Do you do this with similar things?
