Do you think couples intending to wed would benefit from pre-marriage classes?

Prime Minister John Howard is doing his bit to cut divorce rates in Australia by encouraging couples to take pre-marriage classes. Pre-marriage education will be promoted by the government's new Family Relationship Centres, the Sunday Telegraph reports. The centres will offer a referral service for couples contemplating marriage. 'I think it's something that should be encouraged,' Mr Howard told the paper. But the Prime Minister said he was wary about making courses a condition for getting a marriage licence. 'Whether it should be made mandatory, I'd like to think about that because it's very hard to legislate human relations,' he said. Last year, 111,000 couples were married in Australia, up almost five per cent on the previous 12 months, the paper says. It says while the decline in marriages has been reversed in recent years, one in three still break up.
