Did Sammy Sosa knowingly use a cork bat or was it really an accident like he claimed?

Sosa was ejected from the June 3 Cubs/Tampa Bay game when the bat he used splintered in half, revealing a small amount of cork. Cork bats, which some say help you swing faster and make the ball fly further, are illegal in baseball.
