Tom Cruise won best actor for his part in The Last Samurai and more confusingly David Beckham was voted sports personality of the year along with Thierry Henry but ahead of Zimbabwe cricketer Henry Olonga: Olonga and team-mate Andy Flower overshadowed Zimbabwe's opening World Cup match last year by issuing a statement condemning President Robert Mugabe's government and wearing black armbands to mark what they described as 'the death of democracy'. Olonga has not played in Zimbabwe since and has fled to Britain as an immigrant.
