The research, appearing in tomorrow's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, concludes there is no medical reason why women over the age of 50 should not try to become pregnant if they use in vitro fertilization and donated eggs. Although the women in the study had an increased risk of preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, their pregnancy rates, multiple gestation rates and miscarriage rates were similar to those of younger women undergoing the same procedures.
