October 13, 2004 (WILMINGTON, N.C.) — Cursing at a teacher no longer gets you demerits or study hall. These days it can get you a possible jail sentence. A 17-year-old North Carolina student has been charged with disorderly conduct after he used foul language with a teacher. Glenn Gattis says he cursed at the teacher after he got in trouble for being late to class in August. Glenn has been charged with a misdemeanor and could get 30 days in jail if he's convicted. His parents say the school overreacted -- and they've hired a lawyer to fight the charge.
