At my workplace, inspirational quotes often make it onto various memos and e-mails. Many of them refer, accurately both grammatically and as a citation, to 'he' or 'him' in place of 'everyone' or some other reference to a gender-neutral, singular person. Should the focus be on the accuracy of the quote? I mean, changing it to 'he or she' or 'they' would be an inaccurate citation. Or should the intent, to inspire, take precedence? In that case, being inclusive of both genders may matter.
