If you have a webcam, do people in the same room as you know when it's on?

Mine is always in the exact same location whether it's on or off. Sometimes when it's on my roomy will come over to see what I'm doing. Someone watching will say 'ooh someone new...HI!' and then she hits me because I didn't tell her it was on. I think its funny.
