Is it better to ignore race or to appreciate it?

I don't want to prejudice answers in either direction. Ignoring it could mean neglecting to respect it, or it could mean not making an issue of it. Appreciating it could mean obsessing about it, but it could also mean acknowledging its social and historical role and impact.
