A few weeks before a big match last summer with rival Oklahoma, three members of the Team Texas traveling high school wrestling team turned to an unusual place for inspiration: the tanning salon. Before lying down under the lamp, the wrestlers pasted Texas-shaped stickers on their hips. The result: They competed with Texas-shaped white spots where the rays couldn't penetrate. 'I don't think it was too intimidating' to the Oklahoma wrestlers, says Denton Chiles, an 18-year-old from Dallas.
