This is a story about the provision of chaplaincy services in NHS hospitals in the UK. For those who don't have an understanding of health care provision here, the National Health Service (NHS) is a state funded organization which provides universal health care for all, free at the point of delivery based only on clinical need. Obviously with the cost of modern medicine, there are budgetary constraints, yet chaplaincy services are paid for from the NHS budget. Hence, the state is subsidizing faith. Do you think this is appropriate, or should the church fund itself?
