Turkey won the contest with Sertab Erener's 'Every Way That I Can' -- an explosion of rhythm and belly dancing that earned 167 points. Jemini finished last in the 26-nation contest with their single 'Cry Baby.' The result stunned the country, who like to ridicule the contest as meaningless eurotrash. Never before in Eurovision's 47-year history had a British entry finished in the bottom three. It was the only song this year not to get a single vote. Broadcaster Terry Wogan, who has hosted the show for BBC Television for over 20 years, blamed the dismal rating on a 'post-Iraq backlash' after Britain broke ranks with key European allies to join the U.S.-led war on Iraq. 'They didn't deserve to get zip points,' Wogan told viewers. 'But there is a lot of political voting'. The song's composer also blamed the flop on politics but Abbey said she had not felt there was something political going on. Cheryl Baker, whose skirt-ripping rendition of 'Making Your Mind Up' won the Eurovision in 1981 with Bucks Fizz, said Jemini was not a winning entry. 'We didn't deserve nil points but I don't think it was the right song,' she told the BBC. 'Perhaps there was an element involved of whether we should have gone into the Iraq war. But even so, we wouldn't have won,' she said. Britain is one of the most successful nations at the Eurovision, winning the contest several times.
