More nurses and other health workers are to be given the opportunity to carry out simple surgical procedures. The Department of Health has drawn up guidance to standardise the training of surgical care practitioners. Some non-medical health workers have already been trained to carry out procedures such as removing skin lesions and varicose veins operations.
