Can someone choose to be exploited?

Whenever I hear the argument that sexual industries like prostitution and pornography exploit women, people often say that it isn't true exploitation because the women *choose* to be involved. Is the fact that someone may have chosen their situation relevant to whether they're being exploited, though?
