Jill Fischer sliced her hand on it. Tyler Grogan couldn't get to a new pair of scissors because of it, and it's at the root of what some call 'wrap rage.' The hard plastic shells — called 'clamshell' or 'oyster' packaging — that contain items such as electronics and toys are hard to open with an average pair of scissors. They're a nightmare for most consumers and sometimes result in injuries. 'I cut my hand on the plastic just by ripping it open,' said Fischer, 37. In Grogan's case, he was ironically trying to open a package of heavy- duty scissors, sealed in a clamshell package. 'That was hard to get open,' the 31-year-old Denver resident said. 'I had to use a knife, and that's dangerous.' There are no exact statistics on how many Americans injure themselves on clamshell packaging, though many said they've experienced cuts and frustration.
