Does it annoy you when people presume to think you will or should care more about a subject because of your gender or race?

I was talking to a man the other day about the body count in Iraq, and he seemed to feel the need to point out that many of them were women, as if that should make me feel more strongly about the subject. What, 4,000 dead men is less meaningful than 3,900 men and 100 women?
