Would you use a product that was recalled due to big technical problems, but was then put back on the market?

My dad says he'll stick with Michelin tires. I read on a site 'curtains draped over halogen lamps have caused 11 known deaths and 260 fires over the past few years'. I'm not sure if they were recalled, but if they were, and they got 'fixed', would you buy one?
