Various theories exist as to how humans became the bipedal species that they are today, as it is quite rare with primates as a whole. The Savannah theory states that bipedalism emerged due to living in large grasslands, and walking on two legs offered less energy expenditure for a nomadic lifestyle. Other theories include that in which bipedalism emerged in the trees, offering the ability to climb in a similar way to that of an Orangutan.
