Students boycott school due to gay group Wed Nov 6, 8:48 PM ET Hundreds of students are boycotting classes at Boyd County High School in Kentucky to protest the district's decision to allow a gay group to meet on campus. Of the school's 990 students, 420 were not in school on Monday, said district superintendent Bill Capehart. After refusing three times to allow the gay-straight alliance to hold meetings in the school, the teacher-parent council decided last week to allow the students to meet. The reversal came after the council received a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union saying it was violating the federal Equal Access Act by denying the alliance permission to meet at the school.
