Seriously think about it. Cars are supposed to stop behind them but often have to stop in them when making a right turn in order to see well enough to know if traffic is coming or not. Often the 'Walk' time period is terribly short and you've barely started walking before it's already flashing that you must get to the other side ASAP. And so many people jaywalk due to the inconveniences listed above and how the crosswalks are usually far from your intended destination and force you to do extra walking and backtrack (good for exercise but still annoying at times, say when the weather is bad).
