DALLAS -- Dallas County commissioners and citizens Tuesday debated passionately about a 'Whites Only' sign within a county-owned building that remained untouched for decades. The sign, a relic from the era of segregation, was engrained in marble above a water fountain on the records floor until just last week, when officials covered it with a metal sheet. However, many are pushing to have the sign removed from the building altogether. According to Price, an African-American, the sign was simply a reminder of the past that didn't keep African Americans from using the fountain.
