Are there any Americans that have accomplished as much for the country as him? He started Boston's newspaper, the first in the country, then started up other newspapers across New England. He founded Junto, a young working-man's group dedicated to self- and-civic improvement. He published Poor Richard's Almanac, and started America's first library. He founded the first fire station in America, and set up the way firehouses work to this day. He invented literally hundreds of items still commonly used today, including heaters, bifocals and swimming fins. And of course, his famous kite expirement led to the discovery of electricity. After making America as good as he could, he started actively trying to gain independence from England. He went against the stamp tax, signed the Declaration of Independence and travelled to France to sign treaties of peace there. When he came back, he stayed in politics in America, and signed the Constitution. One of his final acts before his death was writing an anti-slavery treatise in 1789.
