MINEOLA, N.Y. - A waitress went on trial Monday on charges that she gave birth to a healthy full-term baby boy in her bedroom during her family's Christmas dinner, then placed the newborn in a plastic bag to die. 'She stuffed that baby in a plastic bag and threw that plastic bag underneath her bed like it was yesterday's garbage,' Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said during opening arguments in the murder trial of Kathleen Brown. Brown, 26, was indicted on three second-degree murder counts in the death of her newborn son on Dec. 25, 2001, Biancavilla said. The three counts represent various legal definitions of murder — including depraved indifference to life — that the jury has the option of deciding.
