Erik Erikson believed that the developing human goes through eight stages of personal development throughout their life. For example in stage 1, which normally occurs in the first year of life, an infant will conflict over trust against mistrust. They will either resolve to trusting other human beings through consistent attention, or will resolve to mistrust because of a lack of attention.
