Do you think very young children can see ghosts?

My two year old cousin said very seriously that there was a man standing in the doorway recently. You seem to hear these things a lot but maybe dreams and reality sort of merge when you are just two years old. What do you think? If not ghosts how do you explain these sort of stories?
