Urban mystics are the new, different kind of mystic. They are the metrosexual, happening slang for the dying image of the religious ascetic. What is an urban mystic? They are ones who don't bother ditching their clothes and wandering out into the middle of the cold winter mountains on a 30 day fast with only a bucket and a broom, with the hopes of discovering 'ULTIMATE TRUTH' (whatever that might be). Nope. Urban mystics can meditate about the mysteries of the universe in their very own backyard. Perhaps even on their new backyard deck, while accompanied by a good fresh avacado eggplant lasagna and a glass of Jacob's Creek. The urban mystic is just as interested in truth and oneness as your average Zen monk or Osho devotee, they just don't feel the urge to stick with any kind of traditional spirituality, or adorn themselves in the images associated with those. They are fresh, they are new. They don't need that 10 day Buddhist meditation retreat in Dharmasala in order to achieve enlightenment. The urban mystic knows that this would not be necessary, even downright silly! As an urban mystic, they are aware that there is no place, no act, no person, not even a particle in the universe that is more 'TRUTH' than any other. That is why they can be totally urban, and totally mystic simultaneously. I think it would be lovely to have a society rampant with urban mystics. Imagine walking into the grocery store and watching everybody, or mostly everybody walking at turtle velocity, as they immerse themselves into the mysteries* of baked bread and apple skins. *everything is a mystery if you reject all previous experience, conditioned beliefs, judgements and experimentally proven 'evidence', if you reject them all with the assumption that there is no 'end point' to human perception: it is constantly expanding. In this way, you would view the world as you would a dream.
