For those who don't remember or just don't know, the Pied Piper saved a town infested with rats by playing his magic flute and entrancing all the rats, who then followed him into the sea and drowned. When the town refused to pay the Pied Piper for his services, he played the flute again, this time entrancing the children, who then followed him out of town, never to be seen again.
