If you have recently consumed raw sugar, did you notice that it has quite a different taste than refined sugar?

Or is it just me? It's an odd taste with an underlying sweetness that's familiar to regular sugar. I expected some difference in taste but what I experienced was beyond the realm of the expected. Or am I just putting way too much thought into the passing taste of natural sugar?
