Should people dress up for funerals?

I just returned from a funeral and I was appauled at the way some of the people were dressed, some of them even in t-shirts (one with a Nascar graphic on it) and jeans. What the hell is wrong with people? If you ask me, people should wear their 'Sunday best' to a funeral.
