Do you think that the Spanish surname system is 'better' than the more common method of the woman losing her maiden name upon marriage?

In Spain, everyone has two surnames. When you have children, they take the first surname of their father and the first surname of their mother to form their own surname. So for example: If Juan García Carrasco marries Francisca Alejo Palma, their daughter María will be called María García Alejo.
