If the U.S. had suffered the earthquake and tsunami, would other countries have helped us out?

We have had numorous earthquakes but not to that level, yet. The ones we have had, like the one in San Francisco a few years ago, I don't recall anybody else helping out with aid. Does the world think that we are so rich that we can handle it all alone?
