All other things being equal, would you personally believe one explanation over another purely on the basis of parsimony?

Parsimony = simplicity. As in Occam's razor, we should favour the explanation that requires the least assumptions when evidence doesn't distinguish between them. Alternatively: "A question should be raised as to whether the principles of parsimony and simplicity have not become restrictive principles of stinginess and over-simplifcation (Nature is lush, prodigal, messy, wasteful, sexy, etc.)" I mean more in terms of personal belief rather than in a scientific context.
