Is someone who would falsely accuse someone of being a child molester just as bad as a child molester?

Falsely accusing someone of molesting a child can ruin a person's life - they could lose their family, their house, maybe even their freedom if they are found guilty somehow. Is falsely accusing someone of molesting children just as bad as someone actually molesting them? Either way, a life can be ruined.
