For people with severe food allergies, hospitalization or even death can be a peanut away. But now, there's hope. Vaccines are in the works that could eventually cure food allergies, and save lives. Thirteen-year-old Allison Pansius is severely allergic to peanuts. She knows what to do in an emergency. California Universities are now testing a vaccine in dogs bred to have food allergies like people. The vaccine combines the peanut proteins that cause allergic reactions with a killed bacteria called listeria. 'If we can increase the amount of peanut that must be eaten before a person has a reaction, it could save lives,' said Suzanne Teuber of the University of California.
