Is it irresponsible of parents to publicly post pictures of their children online?

I can understand having a *private* MySpace profile with pictures of your children, or sharing pictures with friends in PMs. Displaying them in public doesn't seem like a good idea, though, especially if the pictures contain some sort of clue as to your location (i.e. pictures taken next to a landmark, notable store that's only in your area, etc.).
