Should Knut the polar bear get to stay alive, even if he has to be taken care of by humans his whole life?

Meet Knut, he has become a symbol of the Berlin zoo. The baby polar bear was rejected by his mother after he was born. Animal-rights group urged the zoo to put Knut to sleep, because he will become too reliant on humans. Schoolchildren have showed up to the zoo with signs begging the zoo not to put him to sleep. This will not happen says the zoo chief. Knut has been given a surrogate mother in a male human staff member and they will try to rear him on another polar bear since his mother is a straight-up HO. An animal activist said, 'The hand rearing of Knut is in itself a breach of the animal protection code. He will be reliant on humans forever and this cannot be right.'
