I kind of like transcendental numbers - - they can't be expressed exactly by a fraction, especially by a decimal fraction.

But they can be expressed as limits of sequences of fractions. So there's that, at least. |

With regard to the actual question, I'd go with fractions.
Reduced fractions with positive denominator are guaranteed unique. That's not the case with decimals in the classical formulation, unless you add one particular rule.
