No, we're leaving for Hawaii on Wednesday.

swin flu is just like the regular flu. The only people who are really at risk are old people, little kids, and ones who have a reduced immune system.

Actually, that's not true. Unlike with most flus, most of the swine flu deaths have been in healthy young adults.

^^What she said. It's really odd and they don't know why most of the people dying from it are age 20-40

I don't have travel plans, but as paranoid as I am, if I did, I'd probably cancel them.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/4/09 - 11:18:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
No changes to my plans. The media telling people not to panic has caused more panic than the virus itself.

I have difficulty believing they were healthy, young maybe...but in this age, young does not equal healthy.

Nope, I'm still going to New York semi-soon.
Maybe all the buzz will die down by then.

"America was the first (and remains the only) place outside Mexico to record a death from the A (H1N1) virus." That one person was a Mexican toddler visiting Texas.

Nobody said they were dying in America
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/4/09 - 11:55:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
I didn't. I still went to New York. Though I hadn't really heard a lot about the flu until I went there. I still would have gone though, the chance of getting it is not that high. Plus almost all of the cases in New York had been mild.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/4/09 - 2:41:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
The "pandemics" have gone thru before, and will again. Panicking will not help.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/4/09 - 4:47:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
Only if I was traveling to Mexico or somewhere near it's borders. I can't see why it would affect my plans to go to France.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/4/09 - 5:03:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
No. Unless they outright ban travel to Mexico, I am going to Cancun in July.

Living in a country with much better medical care than Mexico, being a healthy person with a strong immune system and having had the flu before and having been fine in less than a week, makes me think everybody has gone crazy. To your average American, there isn't much fear here. To the elderly and those who live in a country with crappy healthcare (and no, the US doesn't count) maybe fears are justified.

It's also in Ireland now but I'm not freaking out about that either.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Tuesday 5/5/09 - 3:13:04 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. Why would I ever go to Mexico? That entire region is just a filthy dung heap.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 5/6/09 - 12:55:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
Of course i wouldn´t go to mexico... But it´s not like I was planning to go there anytime soon. If I have to go to the other end of the world, I would prefer to visit the USA, China or Japan.
13 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 5/27/09 - 10:52:14 AM EST (GMT-5)

but, people have been affected, some even died because of it!
12 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 8/11/09 - 3:34:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, I went to South America this summer despite swine flu risk. So far 1154/162380 people died. That's a death rate of 0,71%.
12 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 4/17/10 - 9:40:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
I would change. I'm afraid of it.
12 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Saturday 4/17/10 - 10:14:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
Nope. Philly is where I WAS going and Philly is where I'm STILL going. I only would have changed HOW I got there and that would only be based on whether I won airfare at the supermarket I work at. I didn't, so Greyhound it is.
