The Chinese art or practice of positioning objects, especially graves, buildings, and furniture, based on a belief in patterns of yin and yang and the flow of chi that have positive and negative effects.

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Some lonely Americans are eschewing Internet dating and instead putting their faith in feng shui in a bid to find their romantic soul mates.

It is not a common sight yet to see feng shui advertised as a romance enhancer, but it may not be long before it becomes an accepted part of dating in big cities where singles frequently battle to find love, devoted practitioners say.

Some of it could be true, you never know. I find feng shui baubles pretty cute so I just get them for decorative purposes.

Maybe it can have *some* effect, due to psychological reasons. For example, a guy practicing feng shui might have more success with women because he is convinced he will by his belief in feng shui - in other words, a self-fulfilling prophecy. Or perhaps feng shui arrangements are intrinsically appealing aesthetically, which could have various positive effects.

Suggesting it's to do with energy flows and the intrinsic positioning of furniture and so forth seems absurd.

Oooh, kyry beat me to it.

I imagine if you'd paid £500 to a woman who create flows of chi by shifting your lamp across the room, then you're damn well going to feel the benefits, even if you have to fabricate them yourself.

Perhaps. But I also think that humans are affected an infulenced in ways that we don't want to admit.

You can't take Eastern REligon and Philosphy package it and sell it at $20 a pop! Its a whole way of life not how you rearrange a room.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 5/17/06 - 12:36:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
I imagine in it's pure form, it's a lot more reasonable and respectable, since it has roots in Taoism. The modern day view of though is the very definition of nonsense.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 5/17/06 - 4:27:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
Rearranging a room according to feng shui could have a positive affect, but only because most people would enjoy a change. I don't think it can actually affect a person's luck or anything like that.
16 yrs ago - Thursday 7/27/06 - 11:32:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
As for the room arrangement part, it gives the room a good flow so you can move well, therefor there is some truth it it I suppose.
16 yrs ago - Friday 7/28/06 - 5:49:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
I know nothing about it but sure sounds like rubish to me.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 9/12/06 - 7:04:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
it's stupid.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Monday 9/25/06 - 7:19:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, actually, I think it might be something to look into. I think that if things are position certain ways, it's easier for the mind to comprehend and such.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Monday 9/25/06 - 7:20:49 PM EST (GMT-5)

I believe it can affect your mind psychologically.
15 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 2/16/07 - 10:24:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think there's a benefit to feeling like things are as they should be. There is a certain energy in some homes that isn't present in others.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 6/14/07 - 12:37:05 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think it's psychological. If you think your couch is going to make for a happy room, you'll be happy once you place the couch.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Friday 6/22/07 - 8:00:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's a psychological thing, like many people have already said. As a mystical force or whatever, I still think it's bull. And I'm from a Chinese background.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Friday 6/22/07 - 8:41:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
My dad's real big into it. I don't think it's that bad.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Friday 6/29/07 - 7:46:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
I tried it. I moved my tv to the left of my room all i did was get annoyed because my chair is in the way. moved my homework position and nothin at all happened.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Friday 6/29/07 - 7:52:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
It doesn't seem like it would work. But it could benefit people who follow it, feeling like everything is in the right place.
