Raw inspiration...This sounds somewhat familiar. I think it is because in this society and schools today independent thinking of any sort is generally discouraged. Those who act differently or "strangely" are frowned upon and made into social outcasts. Our society is a very primitive one in which one must obey or be exiled. All prospective individuals and vulnerable minds are molded into what society wants. An infant's mind is corrupted from the minute it enters into our world. We're mass producing humans in a sort-of factory, if you will.

Along the lines of what Vive said.

Social circles in schools today make a small reflectance of this. If people don't follow the order of what is cool and not cool, or to put into correct terms, "socially behavioral and not behavioral" then they become outcasts by their own peers and join with other outcasts, or "lower class people".

So, all and all, you can easily brainwash someone with socialization depending on how badly they want to be part of society.

It definitely can be.

I agree with niccole, it definately can be, but it depends on the circumstances. The schoolyard isn't so much socialisation brainwashing, but school itself tend to be more so. When you take someone from familiar to unfamiliar surroundings and give them no clear role they'll naturally adapt to those surroundings. The firmer the control you have over the situation, the more you can influence their behaviour. Teaching children to obey authority figures without questioning the assumption they have the right to such authority is probably the cornerstone of the idea. Stanley Milgram's Obediance to Authority is a good example of exerting control this way.

I guess I was always one to not follow society standards to a tee, and always one to question that which I shouldn't. But there are other ways people are brainwashed other than society based. Religion for one (almost all of them) brainwashes those from an early age, and sad as it is, christianity makes all those who oppose it out to be evil devil worshipping beings, even when most who oppose it don't believe in God or Satan. So as religion has done for many years, society follows suit. But there are those who are stronger than that who refuse to be brainwashed, or were for a period of time until we opened our eyes to see what things really were. The haze soon shall clear. Mreow.

I am not going to think about this.

I see your point, but I'll nitpick about the wording.
Brainwashing seems to me to "wash the brain" clean of former thoughts. Socialization starts so early that it's not really replacing an old ideology. See what I mean?

Without socialization, there would be total anarchy in the world cause everyone would have no values and the world would be in a worst state than it alrady is.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 7/7/05 - 8:10:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
And what exactly is the problem with anarchy? Vivez vos vies! How many of you people know you're REALLY alive?
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Thursday 7/7/05 - 11:09:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
Something like that.

15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/8/05 - 11:39:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
depends on how easily you are influenced by the people you socialize with are you a leader or a follower..how vulnerable are you to being brainwashed..?
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 7/9/05 - 12:06:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'm sure you meant socialization...
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 7/9/05 - 12:22:21 AM EST (GMT-5)
Only if you are a follower.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 7/9/05 - 3:19:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
lol.. well i think being around noone would be more brainwashing, if you have too much time to think then its not good 4 you... too much to not understand,
i think its best to be even on both sides, socialisation is fine as long as you dont forget to take a break sometimes...

^And to you, don't type like an idiot.

And if you are easily influenced yes, it is quite a bit like brainwashing.

15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 7/9/05 - 2:23:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
I really feel that it is. Thats why I feel that life would be better living as a hermit because I cant stand what I see everyday.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 7/9/05 - 2:26:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
Now that you mention it, i highly agree. But then again, isn't simply living brainwashing? I don't think you can exist without getting another person's side to the argument.
Another unanswerable question.
15 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 7/9/05 - 10:56:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't know that people are brainwashed, because that would make everyone the same, or at least very similar. I find that the more people I come to know, the more I reallize how vastly different everybody is.
15 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 9/12/05 - 7:48:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think so.....
15 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 9/12/05 - 1:04:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
It absolutely is. Some of it is necessary, though. People have to be able to function in society and within societal bounds on some level.

Why do so many people hate society so much? Just becuase you're akward and haven't found your place doesn't mean the whole system is defunct.

I, personally, take great peace in knowing that somewhere, I can do something that will contribute to the greater good of human civilization. Even if it's only a little bit.

A teeny little bit.
Almost nothing.
That's still okay with me.
Seriously.
I'M GOING TO BE ZEN ABOUT THIS, DAMNIT!

I don't think it is...

I think that people are, to a certain extent, brainwashed for the good of society and themselves. I don't hate society. I think that socialisation is brainwashing because it most likely alters the way a person "naturally" is. Believing that does not affect my ultimate feelings towards society.

I think your judgement isn't well thought out.
