We're mostly adults here. We can tell the difference between joking around and pushing someone to the edge for your own sick pleasure. Comments like "You aren't cutting deep enough" or "You're not suicidal, you're an attention whore" could be taken as a joke between friends but when it's said to someone who is obviously hurting or in pain it could result in death. To me it doesn't matter if it's said with malicious intent or a misguided attempt to "toughen people up". It's sick, it's wrong and it shouldn't be allowed in our community because it's not to hard to see that blood on all our hands from not enforcing healthy standards will lead to the site being shut down for a lot longer than a simple hacking attack will.

It should be a warning, not a perm ban. Things get said in arguments/past posts get bought up and shouldn't necessarily result in an auto-ban.

I feel there are also times it would be difficult to define/there are so many grey areas that it would be difficult for the mods to use.

I would say a warning rather than an instant ban. If someone refuses to learn, then by all means.

I purposely phased the question to leave the most room for discussion.

Personally I feel 3 warnings with no time limit, a 30 day ban then a permanent ban is the way to go.

It will be difficult to enforce, but not impossible. Both the intent of the attacker and the effect on the target will have to be taken into account.
