If the price of gas suddenly jumped to $7 a gallon tomorrow morning, and was not expected to go back down, what would you do?

That would actually be a significant reduction in gas price here.

I would pray that it'd go down some and drive really easy to make what gas I have now last.

(I have a full tank right now)

I would bitch and piss and moan about it to anyone who would listen. Then, I'd go put gas in the car like normal. I have too many kids and live to far from everything to be walking. The bus stop is even a good mile from our home.

That would really suck.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 8:47:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think it would effect my driving very much - I don't generally drive and most of my wife's commuting is done by bus.

But, I'm sure it would make the price of food and many other items skyrocket. We'd likely have to cut back in many other places.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 11:20:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
As it is, I don't buy gas, so it simply wouldn't require a change on my part. But if I DID own a car, I would have to undergo some sort of change, yes.

I'm assuming that the question is independent of all other factors, like the increased cost of shipping food raising grocery prices, and stuff like that, though.

It wouldn't effect me personally that much since I take the bus/walk most places. I'm not sure if my dad would bitch and moan about it and get gas anyway or take the bus. My mum already commutes to work by bus/skytrain.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 4:49:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd bitch and moan....then fill my tank...I guess no more joy riding. Oh well. And probably starve to.

that's about the price in europe, that's one of the reasons most people walk everywhere over there.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 5:51:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
i dont care, i dont have a car, or a liscence for that matter
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 8:11:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would wait a while and then make a big change. I would not be able to make a change tomorrow. It would take some time to adjust.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 8:28:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Cry, scream, freak out, throw stuff... walk, ride a bicycle, take the bus.

You know, five years from now when gas is at $10.49 a gallon, we're all gonna wish it was only 7 bucks.

Your parents do. They pay for your food and your clothes. You wouldn't care if that money suddenly had to all go toward gas?
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 8:37:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
ride a bike.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 8:40:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would cry...
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 8:41:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
i'd get a bike.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 9:44:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
i'd get 2 bikes
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 3/12/08 - 9:57:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
Fortunately, I have a gas efficient car. Even though the prices would be high, I would have to be careful about where I drove.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 3/13/08 - 12:24:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
First I'd cuss
Then I'd smirk
Then I'd seriously consider buying one of those wussy hybrids lol.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 3/13/08 - 2:21:21 AM EST (GMT-5)
We do own a Prius already, which is pretty fuel efficient, but man, $7.50 would still be a lot of money.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 3/13/08 - 3:11:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd tell my mom and dad I've decided I don't want to drive.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 3/13/08 - 5:08:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
I could deal with it really well for at least the next 4 years while I'm in college but after that it would get a lot harder.

I think the sh*ttiest thing for me about high gas prices right now is that joy rides, aimless cruising and road trips are almost out of the question... I was talking to one of my proffs the other day and he was tellilng me how back when he was a teenager he and his friends would just go out and cruise aimlessly around town whenever they were bored, which sounds like so much fun now, to just drive around and explore the city. But when I used to do that in LA I could almost feel the money leaving my wallet, hah.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 3/13/08 - 5:11:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
I only drive to work and back now, so there'd really be nothing I could do. I'd have to deal with having less money.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 3/13/08 - 8:17:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
I live out in the country so if i wanted to walk id have to walk 10 miles. id ride the bus to school and only go to town for something i needed....or to go to the mall!
14 yrs ago - Thursday 7/31/08 - 1:09:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm sure we would take the motorcycle everywhere.
14 yrs ago - Thursday 7/31/08 - 1:16:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
My lifestyle would stay the same. I don't drive much as it is.
14 yrs ago - Thursday 7/31/08 - 2:46:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd be thrilled, i long for the days when gas was that cheap..

I'd save at least 30$ each time i fill up
